Why he might be annoying:

He made a spontaneous decision to attend the ball game during a flight layover.
Some people suspected him of buying his ticket from a scalper.
He attended the game wearing a New York Mets cap and jersey.
He purchased a $15 crab sandwich which was knocked away from him by fans when the home run ball came in his direction.
While trying to capture the ball, he was scraped and his clothes were torn as fans piled on top of him.
Police had to rescue him from the bottom of the fan pile and escort him to a private area for his and the ball's security.
Although the ball was estimated to be worth over $500,000, it was expected to cost over $200,000 in taxes.

Why he might not be annoying:

He attended the game while en route to Australia with friends to visit Abigail Breslin, who was filming on location and one of his traveling friend's sister.
He stated that the time between his capture of the ball and the police's arrival was 'the longest minute of my life.'
He was thankful to San Francisco police for assisting him, stating they 'saved my ass.'
Soon after he captured the ball, he requested a Giants jersey to wear out of respect for Barry Bonds and Giants fans.
Bonds did not want the ball for himself, stating that attendees who capture game balls deserve to possess them.
He secured the ball before continuing his vacation by having a cousin deliver it to a Manhattan bank.
He had made an agreement with a friend attending with him that whichever of the two who might happen to catch the home run ball would receive 49% of its net worth if it was sold.
He considered keeping the home run ball instead of selling it, stating he thought its historical significance would be more valuable than money.
