Why he might be annoying:

He dropped out of art school after six months.
He would mix tar, sand or cigarette ashes into his paint and apply it to the canvas with his fingers or kitchen utensils in a deliberately primitive style.
He said, 'I believe very much in values of savagery; I mean: instinct, passion, mood, violence, madness.'
Critic Robert Hughes described his later work as 'such a repetitious drag.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was an early supporter of outsider art and coined the term 'art brut' (raw art) for it.
He said, 'Art should always make us laugh a little and frighten us a little, but never bore us.'
During his life, he went from being attacked for 'debasing the very nature of art' to being hailed as one of the most important artists of the post-WWII era.
