Their 1896 Stanley Cup Finals matchups were both against the Montreal Victorias.
They defeated the Victorias in March 1896, but lost the Stanley Cup to them in December of that year.
They opted not to challenge for the Stanley Cup, after the trophy's trustees made it exclusively for professional competitions.
They are considered six-time Stanley Cup champions, despite the fact they defended their titles twice in the same year.

Why Winnipeg Victorias might not be annoying:

They were named in honor of Queen Victoria.
They are amongst a select handful of hockey franchises to win both the Stanley Cup and the Allan Cup.
They were the first Western Canadian based franchise to win the Stanley Cup.
They have the distinction of being the first champion to win it that wasn't a member of the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada.
They played in the first ice hockey game covered by play-by-play, when their Stanley Cup challenge match against the Montreal Victorias was covered by CPR telegraph (March 1896).
