Outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds (1899-1902) and Detroit Tigers (1903-17)
    .309 career batting average

Why he might be annoying:

He dropped out of school in the fifth grade.
He signed with both the Reds and Tigers, producing a legal battle that ended with the Tigers getting his contract but paying the Reds $3,000 in compensation.
He resented Ty Cobb replacing him as the Tigers' #1 star.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was left handed.
He was the first player to be home run champ in both the NL (1901) and AL (1908).
Nearly a century after he left Major League Baseball, he still holds the career record for most triples (309).
Baseball magazine wrote, 'If we were looking for a model for a statue of a slugger, we would chose Sam Crawford.' (1916)
He was one of the more colorful interviewees in 'The Glory of Their Times,' interspersing memories of Honus Wagner with quotes from Santayana.
