Organization

The Resume

    (1973-1975)
Formed in the San Francisco/Oakland area
Grew from a 'political prisoner support project' called the Venceremos Organization, an obscure group of Maoists
    Symbol was the 7-headed hydra
Mottos: 'Death to the fascist insect that preys upon the life of the people' and 'Eat the rich, feed the poor.'
Most famous crime was the kidnapping of Patty Hearst (February 4, 1974)
Six members, including leader Donald 'Field Marshall Cinque' DeFreeze, died in a house fire during a famed shootout with the L.A. P.D. (May 17, 1974)

Why Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) might be annoying:

They were a bunch of bored white college students in the '70s who thought they could change the world with criminal activity.
They considered themselves leaders of the Black revolution, yet only DeFreeze was African-American.
They murdered Oakland Schools Superintendent Marcus Foster, a black man (November 6, 1973).
They brainwashed Hearst to the point where she became a member, taking the name 'Tania.'
Other stupid 'white revolutionary' names members took on included Osi, Bo, Cujo, Gelina, Zoya, Gabi, Fahizah, Teko and Yolanda.
Would-be presidential assassin Sara Jane Moore was a part-time member, but disassociates herself from the group.
They killed a mother of four during a bank robbery (April 21, 1975).
Others who have taken on the SLA acronym include the 'Special Libraries Association,' 'Sign Language Associates,' 'Sports Lawyers Association' and 'Starfleet Legacy Alliance' (a geeky Star Trek group).

Why Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) might not be annoying:

They took the term 'Symbionese' from the word 'symbiosis,' the intimate living together of two dissimilar organisms in a mutually beneficial relationship (e.g. - the clone fish & the sea anemone).
Member, Kathleen Soliah (aka Sarah Jane Olson) was arrested after hiding out for 25 years.
She and four other members were convicted of the 1975 murder of the bank patron.
All SLA members are now either dead, in prison or acquitted. Hearst was given a full pardon by President Clinton (January 2001).
