Astronomical Object

The Resume

Formed somewhere between 4.1 to 4.6 billion years ago
Object of mankind in legend and myth
First landed on by the Soviet Union's 'Luna' spacecraft (1959)
First humans to see the backside of the Moon were Frank Borman, James A. Lovell, Jr. and William J. Anders (Apollo 8 - December 1968)
First humans on the Moon were Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin (July 20, 1969)
Mentioned in the title of Pink Floyd's legendary album 'Darkside of the Moon'

Why The Moon might be annoying:

The U.S. spent millions of dollars in taxes so that some astronaut could play golf on it.
It was used as a tool to test technology during the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States.
This space race caused the death of astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chafee, who died in a fire during an Apollo test (January 27, 1967).
President Kennedy promised to send an American to the Moon, most of the work was done during President Johnson's administration, yet President Nixon's name is on the Moon.
Some people believe there was a government conspiracy and man never landed on its surface.
Neil Armstrong left out the important word a when he said the first words spoken on the moon: 'This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.'
Astronauts James A. Lovell, Jr., Fred W. Haise, Jr. and John L. Swigert, Jr. faced almost certain death on their mission to the Moon. Their Apollo 13 capsule failed as they approached it (April 1970).
Natural satellites of other planets are mistakenly called moons.
Many religions use a lunar calendar, which is out of sync with our Gregorian Solar calender.
It is the location Ralph Kramden threatens to send Alice on 'The Honeymooners.'
When it's full, it has a reputation for creating werewolves and making people go insane.
Exposing one's ass is called 'mooning.'
Wiccans believed that it was the source of energy to perform 'magick' spells if performed during it's correct phase (Sadly, many people still believe in this).
Some people actually think it's made of cheese.
One needs to remain in a space suit as their is not enough atmosphere or oxygen to maintain human life.

Why The Moon might not be annoying:

It is a great place, you weigh a lot less and can set sports records that even an Olympian would not dream of.
The Americans left a plaque on the Moon claiming 'We came in peace for all mankind.'
It's been hit by many space objects.
It's the only place we've been other than our own planet.
It aids in controlling the tides of the large bodies of water on Earth.
Standing on it gives a beautiful view of Earth.

Did the Apollo astronauts really land on the Moon?
    As answered in NASA's FAQ - http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/planetaryfaq.html#Moon
    Of course they did!
The Apollo Moon landings were among the most completely documented and observed events in history.
The conspiracy theories that claim otherwise are a bunch of nonsense without even a single compelling piece of evidence.
Most of the questions raised are based on ignorance of basic physics and optics.
Video special effects were in their infancy in the late 60's so that faking a landing on the Moon would probably have been more difficult than actually going there and it seems highly unlikely that the hundreds or even thousands of people who would have had to be involved in such a conspiracy would have kept it a secret for so long.
Ultimately you'll have to decide for yourself if the marginal evidence offered to show this was all a hoax is compelling enough to overturn the overwhelming evidence that it actually occurred, but make sure you check the facts carefully, you need to be a little skeptical of the skeptics, too.
