Why he might be annoying:

    He dropped out of school at age ten.
    Celebrating his Wimbledon victory, he broke royal protocol by kissing the hand of Princess Marina of Kent.
    He preferred artificial surfaces, saying, ‘Grass is for cows.’
    He and Leyton Hewitt were the only Wimbledon men’s champs to lose in the tournament’s opening round the next year.
    He was married four times, divorced three times.

    He was born while his father was in prison for his political beliefs.
    After several years of tutoring, he earned a high school equivalency diploma.
    He started as a ball boy and carved the wooden frame of his first tennis racket himself.
    He said about his origins, ‘I am an example of humility in an elitist world.’
    He became a national sports hero after leading Spain in an upset victory over the US in the Davis Cup (1965).
    He was the first Spanish player to win a singles title in a Grand Slam tournament.
