The Resume

    (February 23, 1904-June 18, 1980)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Best known for the horror films he directed for Hammer Studios
Directed 'The Curse of Frankenstein' (1957), 'The Horror of Dracula' (1958), 'The Curse of the Werewolf (1961), 'The Gorgon' (1964), 'Island of Terror' (1966) and 'The Devil Rides Out' (1968)

Why he might be annoying:

He didn't direct his first film until he was 43.
His work was initially dismissed as gruesome trash by critics.
He was a chain smoker with a chronic cough.
His horror films regularly featured large-breasted women in gauzy dresses (although arguably this may make him not annoying).
He was briefly banished from Hammer Studios after the commercial failure of the very expensive 'Phantom of the Opera' (1962).

Why he might not be annoying:

He joined the Merchant Marines at age sixteen.
He revived interest in horror by filming in color and adding sexuality, gore and fairy tale elements.
He helped make Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee international stars.
His reputation rose as the years went by, and he is now seen as a horror auteur.
Christopher Lee called him a fine craftsman and artist.
