The Resume

    (September 30, 1958-March 1985)
Bob Homme as the Friendly Giant

Aired on NET (1954–68) and CBC (1958–85)
    Children’s television show

Why The Friendly Giant might be annoying:

It originally started in the United States before moving north to Canada, as the show got guaranteed airtime.
It quit airing new episodes in the United States after 1968.
Bob refused to do public appearances in character, to give off the illusion he was actually a giant to his intended audience.
The show’s repetitive nature became bland in later seasons.
By the time the show reached its final years, its background and props were visibly outdated.
It was cancelled by the CBC after airing over 3,000 episodes over three decades.
Bob’s family wound up revoking the show’s props from the CBC museum, after the puppets of Rusty and Jerome were used in a skit during the 2007 Gemini Awards without the family’s permission.

Why The Friendly Giant might not be annoying:

Bob and his wife came up with the idea of the Friendly Giant character as a way to show that giants were not nasty people, as were portrayed in other media works.
It was considered a staple on Canadian children’s television for three decades.
It was one of the first shows to incorporate camera angles that gave off the impression Bob was literally a giant on set.
Most of the show’s dialogue was mostly ad-lobbed, rather then scripted as a way to employ genuine conversations between the characters.
Despite being cancelled, CBC aired the remaining episodes for two years following its initial cancellation, before pulling the show off the air altogether to make way for newer children’s programming.
It was considered a masterwork by the Audio-Visual Preservation Trust of Canada (2005).
The Homme family justified their decision to pull the props from the CBC Museum, citing the decision to use Rusty and Jerome without consent in the skit was done in poor taste and disrespectful to Bob’s legacy.
