Why he might be annoying:

He wanted half a million Canadian soldiers in World War I. When he did not get nearly that many volunteers, he supported conscription.
He allied with the Liberal Party to save himself from almost certainly losing re-election on the unpopular issue of conscription.
He introduced the first Canadian income tax which was meant to be temporary, but has never been repealed.
He lobbied intensely for separate Canadian representation at the Paris Peace Conference, something opposed by both Great Britain and the United States.

Why he might not be annoying:

He managed to transform British national policy and change the way Britain saw its dominions.
His Canadian soldiers proved to be some of the best in the world, fighting honorably in all of the major battles of World War I.
He was the last Prime Minister to be knighted after the British Parliament abolished all potential titles for Canadians (1919).
He could have been killed in the Parliament Buildings fire, but escaped with only minor injuries. However, all his papers were burned and destroyed.
He extended voting rights to women (1918).
He managed to get official recognition of Canadian sovereignty at the end of World War I.
