She always wore a scarf or towel over her head.
She grew up rich and was a socialite.
She allowed her mother to control (and some say destroy) her life.
She and her mother became recluses, walling up in a single room of a dilapidated mansion.
When filmmakers arrived to make a documentary, they found the place so infested that they had to wear flea collars.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her father abandoned their family.
She was devoted to her mother.
She was witty and observant.
Although many predicted she would die shortly after her mother, she lived another 25 years.
She eventually came out of seclusion and tried to have a singing career.
After the release of ‘Grey Gardens,' she became a cult celebrity.
Andy Warhol came to see her cabaret act.
Rufus Wainwright wrote a song about her and her mother.
