    Born in Calcutta, India
    Birth name was Abhay Charan
    Founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Hare Krishnas)
    Translated over 60 volumes of Vedic scriptures, including the Bhagavad Gita

Why he might be annoying:

    When he graduated college, he refused to accept his diploma as part of an anti-British protest.
    He abandoned his family to spread the word about Krishna.
    He claimed the Apollo moon landings were a hoax.
    During the 70s, his followers and Sun Myung Moon's followers were neck-and-neck for the title of 'most likely to harass you in an airport.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a talented mridunga drummer.
    He arrived in the US with $8, a suitcase and some boxes of books (1965).
    During his years heading the Hare Krishnas, he circled the globe twelve times on lecture tours that took him to all continents except Antarctica.
    He wore out disciples 40-50 years younger than him.
