Why she might be annoying:

    She was a frail child.
    When her favorite brother, Edward, drowned (1838) she became crippled by a nervous condition and spent the next five years in her bedroom.
    Her father disinherited her when she married Robert Browning without his permission.
    She was addicted to opium (originally given to her by medical prescription - 1821).

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was a voracious reader.
    She read Latin and Greek books and taught herself Hebrew to read the Old Testament.
    Her love poems to Robert Browning brought her great measures of fame.
    'Cry of Children' brought about Child Labor reforms.
