The Resume

    (1967- )
    Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Play in the Wells Fargo Center
Two Stanley Cup wins (1974, 1975)
    Seven retired numbers: Bernie Parent's #1, Mark Howe's #2, Barry Ashbee's #4, Bill Barber's #7, Bobby Clarke's #16, Pelle Lindbergh's #31 and Eric Lindros' #88

Why they might be annoying:

During the 70's their team was known for hiring 'goons.' Players who were not good hockey players but would attack the best players on the opposition.
Because of their goon attitude, they were nicknamed the Broad Street Bullies.
Their owners bought the Quebec Aces from the AHL (American Hockey League), in order to add their players to their Philadelphia squad.
Their original home, the Spectrum, lost its roof during a winter storm.
They were denied a three-peat when the Montreal Canadiens swept them in the 1976 Stanley Cup finals.
They haven't won a Stanley Cup since 1975.
They traded Peter Forsberg, Chris Simon, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Steve Duchesne, Ron Hextal, two draft picks and $15 million dollars to the Quebec Nordiques (now the Colorado Avalanche) for Eric Lindros (1992).
Many hardcore Flyer fans get upset with the team, considering they spend huge amounts of money on All-Star caliber players, like Eric Lindros, Jeremy Roenick, Keith Primeau, etc., yet haven't had anything to show for it in 25+ years.

Why they might not be annoying:

The movie 'Slapshot' is based loosely on the Flyers' strategy of using their least talented hockey players to rough up the opposition's best players.
They were one of the six NHL expansion teams of 1967.
    They won back-to-back Stanley Cups (1974, 1975).
Their teams from the 80's and early-to-mid 90's projected the tough Philadelphia-type atmosphere on the ice, which brought much delight to their fans.
They are one of the NHL's most popular teams.
