Why he might be annoying:

He once had his own clothing line at Sears during the 70s.
He walked away from the game while in his early 30s when he was struggling, and failed to attempt to work through it.
Doing excessive ranch work caused him to gain lots of muscle, and he had problems getting his swing back to normal afterwards.
His hard-hitting comments on TV have offended many PGA Tour players, including Curtis Strange and Paul Azinger.
He is often slammed by others while commenting on putting because he was one of the worst putters.
Golfers feel like he is acting as the voice of the players, when he doesn't know most of them personally.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is left handed (but plays right handed).
He is considered to be the most candid analyst in golf.
He is not afraid to take shots at anyone while commenting.
He is known to include humor in his golf clinics for juniors.
He won the 1973 US Open by shooting a record 63 and hitting every green in the final round.
Some of his children have followed in his footsteps.
He appeared on the cover of Newsweek (February 3, 1975).
