Why he might be annoying:

He was arrested and imprisoned for taking part in the Easter Rebellion (1916).
He was typecast as men of the cloth.
He was a pitchman for Swiss Colony Wines.

Why he might not be annoying:

He joined Dublin's famed Abbey Theatre as a teen, and would work as an actor, director, stage manager, and tour manager.
After several months in prison, he was released by a British officer who recognized him from the Abbey and told him to go back to acting and to forget 'all this revolutionary nonsense.'
He had less of a brogue than his brother, so, unlike Fitzgerald, he got to portray nationalities other than the Irish.
