Born in Baudette, Minnesota
Drafted 11th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft

Why he might be annoying
He was traded twice before playing in an NHL game.
He spent the first five seasons of his career on non-contending teams.
In a blunder that made it to sports shows in North America, he slashed his teammate Tomas Vokoun in the head with his stick, in an attempt to hit the post out of frustration.
He was frequently a healthy scratch during the Canucks 2011 Stanley Cup Finals run.
He frequently butted heads with his coach, Alain Vigneault, during his first season with the Canucks.
Why he might not be annoying
He left home at 15 to play with the U.S. National Development Team.
He was a standout defenseman at the University of Minnesota, which earned him a Top 12 draft selection.
He showed genuine remorse after slashing his teammate in the head, and did not receive disciplinary action for the incident.
When he was traded to Vancouver, he showed excitement at the though of playing in a pro-hockey market.
Rather than lash out at the team in the media over his coach's decision to bench him during the playoff run, he was quietly rewarded with a return to the lineup once the team's defensive corps started to get injured.
