He blew out his arm and needed surgery.
He plays for the Cubs, a team the always seems to find a way to be bad.
He rarely gets run support from his team.
He has an evil goatee.

Why he might not be annoying:

He recovered from his injury and is one of the best pitchers in the game.
Along with setting the Cubs rookie mark for strikeouts, he recorded the highest single-season strikeout-to-innings pitched ratio of any Cubs starter during the 20th century (12.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings).
He struck out 20 Houston Astros on May 6 of the 1998 season to tie a major-league record.
His idols while growing up were fellow-Texan pitchers Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens.
He beat Roger Clemens in their only meeting, one in which Roger was going for his 300th win (June 7, 2003).
