    NL MVP (1931)

Why he might be annoying:

    As manager, he alienated his players by saying that the players of his generation were superior to them.
    When he was a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame Veterans Committee, he watered down the membership of the Hall of Fame by railroading in his unqualified teammates as members.
    His nickname was ‘The Fordham Flash.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    All but twice he struck out less than twenty times in a season.
    He was a switch-hitter.
    The St. Louis Cardinalswon the 1934 world championship with him as their player-manager.
