Why he might be annoying:

    He was a lazy child who hated school.
    He graduated late from high school.
    He probably had attention deficit disorder.
    He was banished from his public library as a child.
    His original drawings were of nude women. His father, upon finding a picture of a half-naked girl swinging tassels from her nipples, shouted at him, 'What is going to become of you, Richard?'
    He was drafted into the Army.
    He took a test to enter radio repair school, he earned the unprecedented score of minus thirteen.
    Because he soon was placed as an art director of the military, a position that required little work and a lot of travelling, he referred to World War II as the 'best war ever.'
    He became reclusive later in his life and rarely gave interviews.
    He was criticized by feminists for portraying women animals as domestic servants.
    He was poor at spelling and grammar and needed several editors to help him with his books.
    First editions of his earlier books sell for hundreds of dollars.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He designed and created Smokey the Bear for Little Golden Books (1955).
    He became a hard worker, frequently rising at 8 AM and drawing until 4 PM.
    He hated white space in his books and deliberately filled the pages with several drawings.
    His books occasionally out sold Dr. Seuss.'
    Though a very prolific drawer, he never won any awards for his very popular children's books and drawings.
    His eyesight became a problem later in his life, which caused a gradual loss of his vision.
    He developed cancer of the esophagus.
    His son Huck also created children's books.
    His books are still appreciated by pre-schoolers and adults alike.
