Drama series
Originally aired on CBS
Premise: The saga of a rogue Los Angeles detective who solves homicides
Mike Connors as Joe Mannix
Gail Fisher as Peggy Fair (1968-1975)
Why Mannix might be annoying
Mannix is often cocky, arrogant, and insistent on doing things his own way.
The series had a high cast changeover rate.
Connors was the only constant in the series' revolving door of cast members.
The producers phased out the high tech aspects of the show from the first season in order to improve ratings.
It often relied on 'very special episodes.'
Connors sued CBS and Paramount over unpaid royalties (2011).
Why Mannix might not be annoying
Despite being shot or brutally beaten over the course of the show, Mannix remained physically fit for duty.
It was one of the first television series to cast an African American as a lead character.
The theme song was composed by Lalo Schifrin.
Like James Bond, Mannix had a cool collection of automobiles.
One of its producers was the legendary Lucille Ball.
Connors made an appearance as the titular character on an episode of 'Diagnosis: Murder' in 1997.
