    Appeared in the films 'It's Trad, Dad' (1962) and 'Live It Up' (1963)
    Bandleader on 'The Morecambe and Wise Show' (1968-72) and 'Saturday Night at the Mill' (1975-82)

Why he might be annoying:

    He dropped out of school at 14 to become a clerk at an ad agency.
    He was a one-hit wonder in the US.
    His dixieland style of playing was derided by jazz purists.
    He rocked the 'stache and goatee combo.

Why he might not be annoying:

    'Midnight in Moscow' was a #2 hit in both Britain and the US and sold over a million singles worldwide.
    He was the first British jazz musician named an honorary citizen of New Orleans (1963).
    One of his proudest moments was opening for his idol Louis Armstrong during Armstrong's last tour of Britain (1968).
    He played at the wedding reception for Prince Charles and Lady Di (1981).
    He left the hospital to play a last concert in Germany (January, 2013).
    Asked the secret of his long career, he replied, 'Enthusiasm!'
