His longest stay on one team was two seasons.
He was viewed as a sideshow attraction for teams looking to cash in on his status as an amputee in order to sell tickets.
He had a sour relationship with his Browns teammates, who felt his presence was hurting the team's chances at repeating at American League champions.
His inability to hit a breaking pitch was exploited by pitchers, who used it to their advantage when it became known.

Why he might not be annoying:

He lost his right arm in a wagon accident at the age of 7.
He taught himself how to catch and throw a ball with one arm, along with how to hit a ball one armed.
He used a special non-padded glove which allowed him to catch and release a ball quickly in good timing.
He did embrace being treated differently as a result of his disability.
He said in regards to being turned down by the U.S. Army 'If I could teach myself how to play baseball with one arm, I sure as hell could handle a rifle.'
He admitted he was routinely turned down by major league teams as a result of his disability.
He paved the way for disabled players like Jim Abbott to reach the major leagues.
When he was honored by a Philadelphia area newspaper as the Most Courageous Athlete, he cited he felt he didn't deserve the honor cause he felt courage belonged to soldiers on the battlefield, and not to athletes on the ball diamond.
