The Resume

    (May 29, 1941-February 11, 2015)
Born in The Bronx, New York
    Foreign correspondent for CBS
Correspondent for 60 Minutes (1996-99,2005-15) and '60 Minutes II' (1999-2005)
During the Gulf War, was captured (along with three members of his TV crew) by Iraqi forces and imprisoned (1991)
Wrote the book '40 Days' about the experience (1992)
Died in Manhattan after the limo he was riding in collided with a car, then hit a traffic barrier

Why he might be annoying:

During the Gulf War, he broke away from the press pool and crossed the border into occupied Kuwait in a 'careless mistake,' resulting in his capture.
After his release, he continued complaining about military restrictions on reporters' movements, despite having seen first-hand the downside of the press wandering about willy-nilly.
He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the fatal crash.

Why he might not be annoying:

Starting with covering 'the Troubles' in Northern Ireland (1969), he reported from over 30 combat zones.
He won 27 Emmys, believed to be the record for a field journalist.
While being held captive in Iraq, he was beaten with truncheons and canes during interrogations and was spat on for being Jewish.
The Washington Post called him 'the embodiment of the fearless correspondent.'
He said, 'If there's a big story, I want to be there.'
