The Resume

    (January 11, 1890-April 29, 1956)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Junior wireless officer on the Titanic
One of several crew members who survived by clinging to an overturned lifeboat

Why he might be annoying:

While he was training as a wireless operator, he ticked off the neighbors by building an antenna in the family garden.
While senior wireless officer Jack Phillips was sending out distress signals, he joked, 'Send SOS, it's the new call, and it may be your last chance to send it.'
He was accused of ignoring press inquiries while on the Carpathia after the sinking in order to give the New York Times an exclusive story.

Why he might not be annoying:

The 'SOS' joke got laughs from Phillips and Captain Smith.
He spent the hours between the collision and the ship going under relaying messages from the wireless room to the bridge about which ships were coming to the Titanic's assistance.
After being rescued by the Carpathia, he helped that ship's wireless officer transmit survivor lists and messages from survivors, despite his own injuries (the most serious being frostbitten feet).
He said press inquiries had been ignored because priority was given to messages from the surviving Titanic passengers.
