Why Rock Star: INXS might be annoying
It was a shameless combination of �American Idol� and �Big Brother.�
The series forced its least popular contestants to face off against each other, meaning the audience heard the weakest performers sing again and again and again.
Host Brooke Burke contributed little except eye candy.
It allowed fur-coat-and-mascara-wearing weirdo Dave Navarro to act like he's some kind of music expert.
Rather than refer to himself as a judge, Navarro calls himself a �rock mentor.�
Its ratings were consistently low.
Because of poor viewership, CBS cut it back from three episodes a week to two (August 2005).
The winner of the contest is doomed to obscurity, as the new lead singer of long-defunct band INXS.
Why Rock Star: INXS might not be annoying
Most of its contestants were professional musicians already, making for polished performances.
Every week, the singers covered well-known rock and pop hits from all eras.
Despite having little preparation time, they often arranged their own songs.
Unlike the cruel �American Idol� judges, INXS and Dave Navarro are gentle and constructive in their criticisms.
'Entertainment Weekly' said its biggest problem is actually that it's too tasteful.
One pop music critic called it �the best show on TV that nobody�s watching.�
