The Resume

Why Taxi might be annoying:

Tony Danza the amateur boxer portrayed Tony Banta the amateur boxer/cab driver. What a stretch.
The character of John Burns was written after the first season, with no explanation
They had to purchase the rights to a newspaper article that detailed the concept of the show in order to make it.
It achieved moderate ratings until 'Three's Company' no longer acted as its lead-in program.
Then it plummeted to 53rd place for two straight years.
It was cancelled after ABC decided to go for Aaron Spelling's T & A type of entertainment.
It moved to NBC when NBC was known for being the loser third place network.
This caused the show to finish in 73rd place on a regular basis.
Had it lasted another year, it would have been part of one of the most successful line-ups in television history, with The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law and Cheers.
During a Christmas special, Andy Kaufman was supposed to make an appearance as his infamous alter ego, Tony Clifton. He created such an uproar that security had to remove him from the set.
Instead of a final episode tying thing up, they aired a two-part retrospective.
The shows opening was so long that the scene shot of the cab going over the 59th street bridge had to be repeatedly spliced. If you look at the bridge's extensions rather than the cab, you will see many jumps.

Why Taxi might not be annoying:

    It always received critical acclaim.
Like 'Star Trek' it did not find a massive audience until it went into syndication.
Andy Kaufman actually created the language his character speaks on the show and had to teach Carol Kane how to speak it.
It won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series its first three years on the air.
In total, it was nominated for 31 Emmy Awards and won 18.
At one point, HBO expressed an interest in purchasing it.
Reverend Jim Ignatowski might just be the first ever burn-out sitcom character (and Christopher Lloyd nailed the role).
The writers involved with this show moved on to create Cheers.
It was known for its great direction and using an award-winning four-camera technique.
Many working-class Americans could relate to it.
Almost all of the actors and actresses moved on to successful careers.Danny Devito met his future wife Rhea Perlman, who play his love interest, Zena, on the show.
In an early episode Tony Banta talks about not having a boxing robe, this actually happened to Tony Danza.Marilu Henner either dated of slept with many of her male co-stars.
