Why Matlock might be annoying:

It copied the 'confronting the real killer in the courtroom' formula from 'Perry Mason.'
Despite his high-paying job, Matlock always ate hot dogs and wore that grey suit.
Several episodes showed Matlock playing a banjo.
Griffith was the only constant in the series' revolving door of cast members.
Though two of Matlock's daughters appeared on the series, it never acknowledged both of the daughters' existence at the same time.
The opening credit sequence featured many cheesy split screen freeze frames.

Why Matlock might not be annoying:

It lasted on the air one year longer than Andy Griffith's other major starring vehicle.
Some 'Andy Griffith Show' regulars made guest appearances on this show.
It spun off 'Jake and the Fatman.'
Including Griffith's guest appearance as Ben Matlock on CBS' 'Diagnosis: Murder', the character appeared on three different networks.
It inspired many 'Simpsons' jokes which poked fun at its predominantly senior citizen demographic.
