The Resume

    (July 27, 1997-March 13, 2007)
Shown on the Sci-Fi Channel (US) and Sky One (UK)
A secret arm of the US Air Force discovers a device known as a stargate in an Egyptian burial site, and uses it to travel the universe and battle the evil Goa'uld, a parasitic alien race bent on conquest of all sentient species.
Based on a movie titled 'Stargate' starring Kurt Russell and James Spader.
    Starring:
    Richard Dean Anderson
    Amanda Tapping
    Christopher Judge
Michael Shanks (Seasons 1-5, and 7)
    Teryl Rothery
    Don S. Davis
    Corin Nemic (Season 6)

Why Stargate SG-1 might be annoying:

Jack's (Anderson) one-liners are sometimes overdone.
The villains tend to be stereotypical.
Somehow, Earth always escapes annihilation by a hair.
It only has a cult following in the US, even though it's popular in Europe.
It's on the Sci-Fi channel, which many cable/satellite companies don't carry it.
Season 7 has been somewhat disappointing.
Critics don't give it the respect it deserves.
Michael Shanks wasn't on the show in season 6.
Sam Carter (Tapping) has a black widow curse (all of her love interests end up dead).
A large percentage of Stargate fans are known as 'shippers,' who believe that Sam and Jack should have a relationship.
There are no Stargate conventions in the US.

Why Stargate SG-1 might not be annoying:

    The military-centered plot is unique.
The plots aren't as serious as Star Trek. There's always a good smattering of comedy.
The characters are well designed and atypical of many Sci-Fi shows.
The female characters are strong and assertive.
The starships and weapons are well designed.
The special effects and battle scenes are always top notch.
It's one of the longest running Sci-Fi series of all time.
The season 7 premiere broke all-time Sci-Fi channel ratings records.
It's more popular then Star Trek in the UK.
Many fans believe the series is better then the movie it was based on.
One of the alien races in the show is the 'Roswell' aliens.
