Why Rex the Wonder Horse might be annoying:

He may not have actually appeared in all of the films he was credited for.
Rather his double, 'Apache the Horse,' may have appeared in those films instead.
He was known for chasing actors on the set, often ripping their clothes off.
He was sentenced to two years' solitary confinement for dragging a rider to his death before he was discovered by Swede Lindell.
He chased co-star Ernie Adams under a car, proceeding to crouch under the car and attempt to bite him.
He caused a scene on the set of 'Law of the Wild' when he charged the camera and refused to stop when given the signal to do so, knocking over several reflectors and causing the crew to scatter for cover.
His bad rep for 'horse diva behavior' resulted in Swede Lindell refusing to leave the set unless he was locked in his trailer.

Why Rex the Wonder Horse might not be annoying:

    He worked with Yakima Canutt.
Many of his early films are either lost or exist in extremely poor quality.
He was basically Rin Tin Tin's Tonto in the early serial films.
He was one of Hal Roach's biggest wage earners of the Silent Era.
He worked with a young George Stevens (it was one of his first jobs).
His stare was so intense that Navajo extras working on his Westerns frequently wore special amulets for protection.
He was discovered at a boys' school in Golden, Colorado when Swede Lindell observed him try to bite the whip when it was cracked.
Lindell encouraged this and would often stand behind the camera to get a dramatic shot on film.
He was on the verge of being put down before Lindell convinced the orderlies to let him train him. A week later, he was released after performing for prison officials.
He was allegedly so rebellious (even after being 'tamed') that he once ran 17 miles after breaking loose in Nevada.
He is referenced in Gary Merrill's 'All About Eve' speech to Anne Baxter ('the theater's for everybody - you included, but not exclusively - so don't approve or disapprove').
