The Resume

    (February 3, 2001-May 10, 2001)
Formed as a joint venture between NBC and WWE
Teams were the Los Angeles Xtreme (the league's only champions), San Francisco Demons, Memphis Maniax, Las Vegas Outlaws, Orlando Rage, Chicago Enforcers, New York/New Jersey Hitmen, and Birmingham Thunderbolts)
Single-entity league, which means all teams are operated as a single unit, not as different franchises

Why XFL might be annoying:

    Three words: 'Vince McMahon's Folly.'
If professional wrestling were involved with football, would the football games be fake too?
It had Jesse Ventura announce some of its games, even though he was supposed to be doing his job as governor of Minnesota.
The nickname and logo of the Memphis Maniax made fun of the mentally ill.
Even though the 'X' in XFL was thought to stand for 'extreme,' its promoters went extra lengths to persuade people that the 'X' didn't stand for anything.
It kept changing the rules in the middle of the season when it was faced with decreasing ratings.
It showed what lengths that NBC would go to have football on its network, no matter how much it sucked (and suck it did!!).
The last few games shown were among the least-watched prime time programs in network television history.
In its only year, NBC and WWE lost $70 million on this flop.
XFL merchandise quickly ended up on clearance tables where it continues to sit.

Why XFL might not be annoying:

They gave us the XFL Cheerleaders.
It encouraged its players to have nicknames instead of their real names on their jerseys.
It brought us 'He Hate Me.'
Rod 'He Hate Me' Smart ended up playing in the Super Bowl with the Carolina Panthers and fellow XFL alum Tommy Maddox had a respectable career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
An estimated 54 million people watched its first game between the Outlaws and the Hitmen.
Instead of a coin flip to start each game, it had a player from each team scramble for a ball on the ground to gain possession.
For fans who wanted a bunch of skin shown on cheerleaders, the XFL was for them.
It only lasted for one season.
