    He struggled to maintain his footing in the NHL.
    He asked for his release from the Rangers at mid-season, which didn't get granted by the team (2003).
    He committed suicide while he was vacationing with his mom and sister in Turkey.
    He said he had an incurable disease in his suicide note, but wouldn't disclose what exactly it was.
    Speculations of his incurable condition ranged from depression to AIDS by web sleuths.
    He initially slit his wrists and arms, but when that method failed, he hung himself with a belt in the shower of his hotel room instead.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a member of the Russian junior team that won a gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Winnipeg (1999).
    He impressed Ken Hitchcock with his play during his rookie season with Dallas.
    He was well liked by his peers, many of whom lobbied the Stars coaching staff to give him more playing time in order to showcase his talents.
    He was a member of the Stars team that reached the Stanley Cup Finals for the second consecutive season (2000).
    He played in the AHL All-Star Game mere months before his passing.
