    People misspell his surname 'LECOMTE' with an 'M.'
    Upon the critical praise from 'Monsieuir Hire,' many critics treated him as a newcomer despite the fact that he had already directed half a dozen features before.
    Most of his early successes were not distributed outside of France.

    His film 'Monsieur Hire' was warmly received at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival.
    He won the prestigious Cesar Award for directing 'Ridicule.'
    Ryan Mottesheard of IndieWaire said of Leconte, 'You could even argue that no other foreign filmmaker (not even (Pedro Almodovar) has had as strong of an impact on United States arthouses.'
    Oscar winning director Michel Hazanavicius listed Leconte as one of his mentors.
