Why she might be annoying:

She replaced her Spanish surname with an Anglo Saxon one.
She allegedly received dozens of syrupy love letters from Benito Mussolini.
She feuded with Joan Crawford (who may have sexually harassed her).
She abruptly left MGM in 1933 under unclear circumstances.
In old age she appeared in several schlocky horror films.
A reporter in 2000 wrote she was stuck in the 1920's like Norma Desmond in 'Sunset Boulevard.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She easily made the transition to sound.
In her heyday she received over 10,000 fan letters a week.
MGM may have let her go for refusing to sleep with Irving Thalberg.
She made a comeback in 1998 after being absent from movies for over 60 years.
She is one of very few silent film stars whose career extended into the 21st century.
In 1997 she was given the Women's International Centre Living Legacy Award.
