The Resume

    (November 8, 1836-May 30, 1911)
Established the Milton Bradley Company in Springfield, Massachusetts (1860)
Created first game in 1861 called 'The Checkered Game of Life,' still in production as 'The Game of Life' (object: obtain a happy old age instead of financial ruin where player's luck was decided by a numbered spinner)
Other MB games include 'Scrabble,' 'Twister,' 'Battleship,' 'Scattergories,' 'Pictionary,' 'Aggravation,' 'Operation,' 'Cootie,' 'Barrel of Monkeys,' 'Hungry Hungry Hippos,' 'Yahtzee,' 'Candyland,' 'Stratego,' 'Mousetrap,' 'Don't Break the Ice' and 'Chutes & Ladders'

Why he might be annoying:

    He had an oversized nose.
He started as a lithographer. His photo of Abraham Lincoln was a hot seller until Lincoln grew a beard, rendering his image worthless. Afterwards, his business waned and he folded shop.
He used a spinner instead of dice for his first game because he believed dice to be tools of gamblers, hustlers and n'er-do-wells.
He died before he saw a genuine profit and before most of the successful MB games were created.
His company was taken over in 1984 and is now wholly owned by Hasbro, Inc.

Why he might not be annoying:

He believed play benefited children, and developed games where positive childhood development was stimulated.
He printed manuals for games. The one he wrote and patented on the rules for croquet became the standard.
He was the first person in the United States to print kindergarten materials in English (1869).
Besides printing kindergarten manuals, newsletters, and children's books, he wrote and published books on teaching color to kids, including 'Colour in the Kindergarten' (1893).
He eventually expanded his business to manufacturing jigsaw puzzles.
He invented the original paper cutter and the color wheel used in the printing industry.
