Tuesday Weld as Thalia Menninger (1959-62)
Steven Franken as Chatsworth Osborne, Jr.
Frank Faylen as Herbert T. Gillis
    Florida Friebus as Winnie Gillis
Premise: Typical teenager Dobie Gillis aspires to have popularity, money and attention from beautiful girls

Why The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis might be annoying:

The G in Maynard G. Krebs stood for 'Walter.' (Maynard explained that his mother 'didn't spell too good.')
Maynard gave viewers a not very accurate picture of what the Beat Generation was like.
During the first season, Bob Denver received his draft notice, so Maynard was given a big sendoff in the next episode and Michael J. Pollard was brought in as Maynard's cousin, Jerome Krebs.
Denver returned from the army physical having been designated 4F because of an old neck injury, and Maynard was brought back while Jerome quietly disappeared after one more episode.
For the first season, Hickman was required to dye his hair blonde to distance himself from the character he had played on 'The Bob Cummings Show.'
When Dobie went from high school to college, several of his teachers made the move with him.
After he became a movie star, Beatty tried to deny ever being in the show.

Why The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis might not be annoying:

Several episodes began and ended with Dobie sitting on a park bench posed as Rodin's 'The Thinker.'
Actresses who played Dobie's girlfriends included Marlo Thomas, Sally Kellerman, Ellen Burstyn, Barbara Bain and Yvonne Craig (who portrayed five different girlfriends).
Maynard G. Krebs ranked #22 on TV Guide's '50 Greatest TV Characters of All Time.'
TVParty.com called it 'the first television show to treat teens as anything other than complete dolts.'
For the TV movie reunion 'Bring Me the Head of Dobie Gillis' (1988), the producers got downright literary, borrowing the plot from Friedrich Durrenmatt's play 'The Visit.'
It was a major influence on the characters in Scooby Doo, with writer Mark Evanier noting, 'Fred was based on Dobie, Shaggy on Maynard, Velma on Zelda and Daphne on Thalia.'
