    (May 27, 1947-June 22, 2014)

    Publisher and poet
Editor for the counterculture magazine 'Oz' (1971-73)
    Founded Dennis Publishing (1974)
Published the magazines 'The Week,' 'Maxim,' 'Stuff,' 'Blender,' 'PC Pro' and 'MacUser'

Why he might be annoying:

He was the first person to say 'cunt' on live British TV, during a 'hippie invasion' of David Frost's show (November 7, 1970).
He said that between that and being accused of 'corrupting the morals of the young' in the 'Oz' obscenity trial, his mother stopped talking to him for three years.
An interviewer described his laugh as 'a full-blown, slightly demented cackle.'
He bought a Rolls Royce without knowing how to drive and without having a place to park it.
He estimated that he spent over $100 million on booze, drugs, prostitutes and general debauchery. ('I was barking mad at the time, but I'm sure I had a helluva good time.')
He told an interviewer he had killed a man by shoving him off a cliff, then said the story was 'a load of hogwash' he made up while drunk (2008).
He said, 'I'm a total prick, but I hope my poetry isn't a reflection of that.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He went from selling 'Oz' on the street to editing the magazine to becoming Britain's most successful independent publisher.
He was acquitted in the 'Oz' obscenity trial (1971).
He is a patron of the National Library for the Blind.
His poetry has been lauded by Stephen Fry, Paul McCartney and Tom Wolfe, who called him 'a latter-day Kipling.'
He titled one of his poetry reading tours 'Did I Mention the Free Wine?' and offered French wines from his personal cellar to audiences.
He said, 'I'm one of those people who lives more lives than one.'
