Basketball Player

The Resume

    (July 13, 1931-July 8, 2018)
    Born in Madisonville, Kentucky
    Attended the University of Kentucky
Small forward/shooting guard for the Boston Celtics (1954-55,1956-64)
    8.378 points
    3,410 rebounds
    1,134 assists
    #23 retired by the Celtics
Inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame (1982)

Why he might be annoying:

He was unable to play his senior year when a point-shaving scandal involving three other players forced Kentucky to forfeit the season.
Ironically, his best season with the Celtics statistically (1957-58) was the only one after his return from military service that the Celtics did not win the NBA Championship.
Red Auerbach upon retiring offered him the position of Celtics head coach, but he declined and returned home to Kentucky instead.
In his only head coaching stint, taking over the helm of the ABA’s Kentucky Colonels 17 games into the 1970-71 season, he had a losing record (32-35).

Why he might not be annoying:

He missed the Celtics’ 1955-56 season serving in the military.
He is widely considered the NBA’s first ‘sixth man’ and one of its best.
A tornado destroyed his house in Kentucky (2005).
