    At the Olympics, played on Soviet teams that won three bronze medals (1968,1976,1980) and one gold medal (1972)
    President of the Russian Basketball Federation (1993-98)

Why he might be annoying:

    Confusingly, he frequently played alongside a Sasha Belov, who was no relation.
    His team's gold medal was controversial since the officials reset the clock three times after an apparent US victory in the final game.
    At the '72 Olympics, he would have won the silver medal had there been a competition for best porn star 'stache. (Mark Spitz would have taken the gold.)
    He coached the Russian basketball team that failed to qualify for the 1996 Olympics.

Why he might not be annoying:

    His smooth jump shot and pinpoint accuracy earned him the nickname 'the Jerry West of Russia.'
    He lit the torch at the Moscow Olympics (1980).
    FIBA named him the best international basketball player ever (1991).
    He was the first international player inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame (1992).
