Why he might be annoying:

He refused to accept a ride from teammate Kevin Dineen and grabbed the keys out of his hand and drove home, despite the fact his blood-alcohol level was over the state limit.
His decision to drive home drunk led to his death.
He was speeding and not wearing a seat belt when he rolled his truck.
He had an alcohol addiction earlier in his career.
He died before he had a chance to see his children grow up.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a leader for the Hurricanes at the time of his death.
His last NHL goal was an overtime winner in game 4 which prevented Carolina from getting swept by the Boston Bruins.
He helped coach his oldest son's hockey team voluntarily when he was injured for most of the 1998-99 season.
The Hurricanes retired his number 3 (1999-2000 season).
He won the Stafford Smythe trophy (Memorial Cup MVP) while playing with the OHL's Guelph Platers (1986).
