Why they might be annoying:

They have to put up with loud planes from nearby LaGuardia Airport flying over Shea Stadium during games.
Their mascot, Mr. Met, has a giant baseball for a head and looks very gay, even with Mrs. Met.
William Shea, in an effort to bring NL baseball back to New York, tried unsuccessfully to steal either the Phillies, Pirates or Reds (1958).
When Shea organized a new baseball league (the Continental League) MLB decided it was time for expansion.
One fan jumped onto the field carrying a Howard Stern sign. After being arrested he ridiculously claimed he fell onto the field (2004).
In the first four season they finish in dead last - tenth place. Fans would joke when asked where they thought their team would finish by answering 'in the top 10.'
They witness their team meltdown in 2007, with a 7 game lead and 17 games left to play they were knocked out of first place.

Why they might not be annoying:

When the Dodgers and Giants abandoned New York City (1958), the national league fans were broken hearted (1957) many refused to root for the hated New York Yankees and were delighted to become Mets fans (1962).
In order to get the NY Met franchise, the city had to promise to build the fans and team a new ball park, ironically both the Giants and Dodgers left the city because they refused to build a new park.
The Mets were the third major league team to call the Polo Grounds (Giants and Yankees) home.
The AL was award two teams (Angels and the Senators) to begin play in 1961 and the NL 2 teams (Mets and Colt .45s) for 1962.
There team is the only team to rise from ninth place (1968) to World Series Champions (1969) after a single season.
They repeated Tug McGraw's Met mantra 'You Gotta Believe.'
One super fan in the 60's, known as sign guy, would sit down by the third base line holding up signs like 'Yeah!' and 'Amazing.'
They were excited to see Bill Buckner's famous World Series error at Shea (1986).
Due to John Rocker's anti-gay, racist and anti-New York remarks, they enjoyed jeering him.
They have a choice of 50 luxury suites.
Home town home runs set off a giant exploding apple.
On Jeep night, fans coming in jeeps get free admission and free parking.
