The Resume

    (September 3, 1951-December 26, 1986)
    TV soap opera
    Originally aired on CBS (September 3, 1951-March 26, 1982) and NBC (March 29, 1982-December 26, 1986)
    Notable cast members included:
    Mary Stuart as Joanne Gardner
    Terry O'Sullivan as Tate
    Lee Grant as Rose Peabody
    Morgan Fairchild as Jennfer Pace
Premise: The saga of midwestern housewife Joanne Gardner and her family and friends

Why Search for Tomorrow might be annoying:

    Way too much cast changeover!
Some characters were played by different actors over the show's history.
There were many plots involving murder, incest, drugs, and family discord.
As time passed, the show's ratings declined due to competition with other soap operas.
It seemed as if CBS was trying to kill the series with its weird scheduling.
CBS dropped the series in favor of the disastrous, short-lived soap opera 'Capitol.'
This resulted not only in even lower ratings, but also a corny campaign by NBC to 'Follow the Search' as a result of the network switch.
In 1983, both the master copy and the backup of an episode were lost forcing them to do a live show.
After the event, NBC was accused of lying about the tape being misplaced in hopes that the noise generated by the accident would create a ratings jump for the show.
In a shameless last attempt to resurrect the ratings, Henderson, the town in which the series was set, was nearly destroyed by a flood.

Why Search for Tomorrow might not be annoying:

It was the first soap opera broadcast on television.
Many famous faces such as Fairchild, Grant, and even Jane Krakowski got their big break on this show.
Others such as Don Knotts made appearances or cameos on the show.
The episode's length was increased from 15 minutes to 30 minutes in later years.
The series won many Daytime Emmys during its 35-year tenure.
At the time of its conclusion, it was the longest running non-news program in television history.
