Politician

The Resume

    (October 14, 1949- )
    Born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Senator for Queensland (Assumed office November 10, 2017)

Why he might be annoying:

He became a senator despite only 19 voters listing him as their first preference on their ballots. (The One Nation Party received enough votes in the 2016 elections to elect two senators from Queensland. When one of the two senators, Malcolm Roberts, was declared ineligible for office because he held dual Australian-British citizenship, Anning, as the One Nation candidate who had received the third-most votes in Queensland, replaced him.)
In his maiden speech, he advocated reintroducing the discriminatory ‘White Australia’ immigration policy and called for a ‘final solution’ to the immigration issue (August 14, 2018).
He called the Safe Schools Coalition, founded to prevent bullying and discrimination against LGBTQ students, ‘sexually deviant propaganda’ that undermined ‘the white family.’
He attended a far-fight rally in Melbourne led by neo-Nazi Blair Cottrell (January 5, 2019).
After a white nationalist shot up a mosque and an Islamic center in Christchurch, New Zealand, killing 50 people (March 15, 2019), he declared, ‘The real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program, which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place.’
He doubled down on his comments, saying ‘I don’t think it can be called hate speech if I state a fact. I don’t regret anything I do.’
After a seventeen-year-old cracked an egg against his head, he punched the teen twice in the face (March 16, 2019).

Why he might not be annoying:

His ‘final solution’ speech successfully united Australia’s two main political parties (and most of the minor ones) in condemning him.
He made Donald Trump’s response to the Charlottesville ‘Unite the Right’ rally look diplomatic. (At least Trump blamed ‘both sides,’ not just the victims.)
While he was speaking to the media, a teenager hit him on the back of the head with an egg (while taking a selfie of the attack, of course).
A GoFundMe account for the teen’s legal fees (and to ‘purchase more eggs’) reportedly raised $10,000 in 24 hours.
