    Professor of Physics at the University of Karlsruhe (1885-1889) and University of Bonn (1889-94)
    Discovered radio waves (1887)
    Demonstrated light is an electromagnetic wave

Why he might be annoying:

    His discovery was initially called 'Hertzian radiation' before being renamed radio waves.
    He said of the discovery, 'It's of no use whatsoever.'
    Although he was the first to broadcast and receive radio waves, Marconi ended up being known as the 'Father of Radio.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a talented linguist, learning Arabic and Sanskrit.
    He paved the way for radio, television and radar.
    The metric unit of frequency was named for him (1 hertz = 1 cycle per second).
