Baseball Player

The Resume

    (April 28, 1983- )
    Born in Corpus Christi, Texas
3rd baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals (2009- )
National League Championship Series MVP (2011)
    World Series MVP (2011)
Chevy gave him a 2012 Corvette for the award

Why he might be annoying:

After graduating high school he was offered a baseball scholarship, but felt burned out and turned it down.
He wasn't exactly the darling of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft, going to the San Diego Padres in the ninth round (273rd overall pick).
He hit a sacrifice fly on Opening Day 2009 in his Major League Baseball debut and was expected to replace Troy Glaus, but instead was opted to the farm system and played only 17 MLB games for the season.
An ankle injury in June limited him to 70 games in 2010.
He missed 51 games in early 2011 when a pitch hit and broke his left hand.

Why he might not be annoying:

He grew up in the St. Louis area and has been hailed as a 'hometown hero.'
After his freshman year at the University of Missouri (studying computer science), he visited his old high school where he flourished as a ballplayer, and rekindled his interest in baseball.
The Cards saw potential in him as they gave the Padres seasoned vet Jim Edmonds in exchange for him in 2008.
Coming back from his broken hand in 2011, he credits St. Louis Cards hitting coach Mark McGwire in helping him refine his batting stroke for increased productivity.
On a tear at the end of the 2011, he had hits in eight of the final nine regular-season games.
In the dramatic Game 6 of the Wolrd Series with the Cards down to their last strike in the 9th inning, he hit a two-run triple to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
He followed that feat with a walk-off homer in the 11th inning to win the game and force the Texas Rangers to a Game 7.
He became the 6th ballplayer to be named the League Championship Series MVP and the World Series MVP in the same postseason.
His 2011 postseason RBI total was 21, which set a new MLB record.
