Why he might be annoying:

He helped sell out his country to the Nazis.
When he met Adolph Hitler, he proposed that the two countries should become allies.
In 1943, he ordered the French police to ship Jews to concentration camps.
He smoked.
He was, at different times, both a socialist and a conservative.
He attempted suicide by downing poison and needed his stomach pumped four times, so that he could be sent to his execution.

Why he might not be annoying:

Before the war, he tried to isolate Germany diplomatically by allying with Italy, but this ploy failed.
He was shot four times by an assassin.
He wore white ties.
He was a skilled orator.
