Baseball Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He played on six different teams during his career.
Despite his accomplishments, he was yet to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as of 2020, which some baseball pundits feel his role in the Pittsburgh drug trials plays a part in his omission.
He initially planned to play football, but was forced to give it up after a knee injury.
He was the first player in the history of the All-Star Game to go up to bat not wearing the batting helmet from his own team.
He was the target of anger by Pirates fans, who felt he wasn't living up to his million dollar contract and protested by throwing objects at him.
His career nearly ended after it was revealed he abused cocaine and served as one of the central figures in the Pittsburgh drug trials.
Marge Schott used the deragotry term 'million dollar niggers' to describe him and Eric Davis during their tenure with the Reds.

Why he might not be annoying:

He learned how to play baseball on the site of Cincinnati's famed Crosley Field.
He was considered one of the National League's premier power hitters during the late 1970's and early 1980's.
He was a member of two World Series championship teams (1979, 1989).
He was able to extend his career by five years when he moved over to the American League to play in a full-time designated hitter role.
He made the All-Star team seven times in his career.
He was the first athlete in professional sports to sign a contract worth a million dollars.
He proved to be a capable successor in the Pirates right field, following the death of Roberto Clemente.
