Why he might be annoying:

    He drew fire from the NHL, after a video of him being maskless at a nightclub at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic went viral around the same time the league was working on a Return to Play plan (July 2020).
    He failed to live up to his status as a top 10 draft pick.
    Some hockey pundits felt he was solely drafted by the Canucks as a result of being from nearby New Westminster.
    He struggled with weight issues early on in his career.
    He was suspended by the Canucks after sexual misconduct allegations against him became public (May 1, 2021).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He initially played rugby, before making the switch to hockey full-time.
    He was the first native of British Columbia to be drafted by the Canucks in the first round in over 30 years.
    He called playing for the Canucks a dream come true, upon being selected by the team.
    He embraced the 'Shotgun Jake' movement, which started after the Canucks broadcasters vowed to shotgun a beer every time he scored a goal, which became viral among the team's fans.
    He gradually worked on his skills and conditioning in order to earn a full-time roster spot for the Canucks.
