Why he might be annoying:

His birth was foretold by a hermit, saying: 'He will enter the Order of Friars Preachers and so great will be his learning and sanctity that in his day no one will be found to equal him.'
Even as a child he preferred spending time at monasteries to the world outside.
His family was so disturbed by the fact that he joined the Dominicans that two of his brothers kidnapped him and held him against his will for almost two years.
Legend has it that he never felt sexual urges after resisting the women that his brothers attempted to tempt him with; allegedly a gift from God.
He is often viewed as a second rate philosopher since he merely combined the work of Aristotle with Christianity.
He argued that the emission of semen should only be done if the production and upbringing of children was the ultimate goal.
Although he offered many famous proofs of God's existence, he held that belief in God must be arrived at through faith rather than reason.
He grew to be so fat that part of his dinner table had to be carved out so that he could eat sitting down with the rest of the monks.

Why he might not be annoying:

His father was a count, yet he rejected his family's wealth.
Many miracles have been credited to him.
He was one of the greatest minds in Europe in his day.
He held that the defining characteristic of humans was their ability to reason.
A great deal of Catholic theology comes from him.
He is the namesake for a college in New York.
