Her books deal with real-life issues familiar to kids and young teens.
Prior to being an author, she worked as a librarian.
She graduated University of California-Berkeley.
She won the Newbery Medal Award for Children’s Literature (‘Dear Mr. Henshaw,' 1984).
The city of Portland, Oregon honored her with the Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden featuring bronze statues of her most famous characters.
